Asia Equity

Asian mutual funds and ETFs own equity securities listed on stock exchanges... Asian mutual funds and ETFs own equity securities listed on stock exchanges across Asia, including in China, India, Japan, South Korea, Vietnam, Thailand, and Singapore, among others. They can be actively or passively managed, and, depending on their mandate, may invest in developed or developing countries (or a combination of the two). Investors are attracted to Asian equities because of the potential for growth. In the last few decades, countries such as China have seen explosive GDP growth as millions of people entered the middle class. Asia has nearly 60% of the world’s population and is the largest continent by GDP using purchasing power parity. These funds tend to have large concentrations in companies linked to the consumer and communications sectors. These funds do come with significant risk. In the case of China, geopolitical risks cannot be ignored. Meanwhile, the safety of foreigners’ investments in the communist regime is also an open question, especially if relations between China and the West deteriorate. Accordingly, these funds are appropriate for aggressive investors willing to take on substantial risk in search of higher returns. Last Updated: 12/24/2024 View more View less
